The classic car enthusiast may be out of luck in these corona times when it comes to attending classic car events, but luckily the hours are well-spent in the garage. Tinkering with American cars never stops because it can always be nicer, bigger or better. This goes for the engine too, because the V8 should shine just as beautifully as the car itself, shouldn't it?
American vintage cars come in different shapes and sizes. Large SUVs and pick-up trucks are omnipresent on the road and muscle cars often have the characteristic features that make the enthusiast melt. Ford was the birthplace of the American automobile industry, but many other brands from the land of stars and stripes such as Chevrolet, Dodge, Jeep, Cadillac and Buick, have also become fixtures. These US cars are many people's dream cars because of their distinctive sound and unique style. In order to keep your old-timer's engine running for a long time without any problems, proper and regular maintenance must be carried out. Spare parts for American vintage cars are often hard to come by for individuals and garages. They are not available, no longer produced or do not have the desired sizes or specifications that you are looking for.
Do you want parts to start your regular maintenance, to carry out a repair or to increase the power of the car? You have come to the right place. Wilmink Performance has various parts for American old-timers in its range, including for the popular GM 350 engine. In this blog our specialists list 6 types of parts that every US car owner wants to have in the garage!
Gaskets, together with sealing rings and O-rings, ensure that two parts can be joined together without leaks. When fitting a new part it is recommended that you also fit a new gasket, as these can only be reused in some cases. You can of course also contact one of our specialists for advice. Gaskets are available from us in different types, sizes, sets and from different brands such as Clevite, Edelbrock, Holley, Mahle and Fel-Pro. In addition to the standard gaskets, we also supply custom-made gaskets from Cometic Gasket.
A piston is a complicated product, where specialism and expertise are important. Pistons are made to have as little friction with the cylinder wall as possible to thus minimise wear. Neither should the piston be too heavy. When pistons are worn out or the cylinder block is re-drilled and honed, new pistons must be fitted. Our most recent blog on pistons gives an summary of the possibilities for this product, including our service for custom-made pistons (and connecting rods) from CP-Carrillo. We also supply standard pistons from CP-Carrillo and many other brands, and also have various pistons for the GM 350 in our range.
For maintenance it is very important to look at the lubrication of the engine and therefore also at the oil pump. Wear and tear, age or a blocked suction strainer are often the causes of a defective oil pump. We sell various parts for the lubrication of the engine block, including oil pumps.
The intake and exhaust valves ensure that fresh air and fuel enter the cylinder and exhaust gas leaves the cylinder. When installing new valves it is advisable to replace the valve guides as well. We supply various types of valves from Supertech, among others, and we can also make custom valves for you of the Ferrea Racing Components brand. We also have many valves in our range.
A complete carburettor is a great addition to the engine block of your American vintage car. We have various types of carburettors, some of which have been tunes and others still needing to be tuned. This is an important and necessary process. Carburettors come in different shapes and sizes and for different applications. We supply carburettors from Edelbrock and Holley Performance Products among others. Read more about our range of carburettors from Holley and others in one of our latest blogs.
Older American engines often work with a single camshaft underneath, where the valve is controlled by pushrods. The sharpness and the height determine the character of the engine. Camshafts need to be well-maintained and lubricated. Insufficient lubrication is often the cause of camshaft wear or a failure. When camshafts are replaced, tappets and tappets must also be replaced as they wear against each other. At Wilmink Performance you can find various camshafts, including from the brand COMP Cams, of which we also have various models in our range.
