ACL Bearings is one of the first choices of our customers when ordering bearings for good reason. The brand's knowledge and experience ensure high quality, while the range is always expanding to offer bearings for more applications. In this article you will find more information and an overview of the latest products from ACL!
It is in the DNA, says ACL. History and experience in motorsports have ensured the production of high-quality products in the world of bearings. The brand uses design, metallurgy, engineering and precision and quality control to produce the best performance parts for its customers.
During the production of bearings the thickness and the right mix of materials are considered with great care in order to achieve the highest strength and resistance. For example, no flash plating is used in ACL bearings. Flash plating is the application of a very thin layer of material often by electrolysis (the same as chromium plating and galvanising but much thinner). By not applying this treatment to ACL bearings, quality is maintained and heat transfer is maximised.
Bearings are an essential component when it comes to the performance of an engine, especially under the extreme conditions demanded by performance vehicles. That is why the RACE series from ACL is truly focused on performance applications.
An example of a purpose of this specific production line is the difference in appearance. The regular ACL Duraglide aftermarket bearings, which have a light silver/grey appearance, are different from the RACE series bearings which have a darker colour (black/brown/blue). The colour in the performance line comes from galvanisation.
When the bearing is fitted and comes into contact with the crank pin, the bearing surface will be polished and this colour will disappear leaving a silver surface. Bearings do not start with the silver appearance of aftermarket bearings, which is normally applied for long-term look and corrosion protection. Under heavy load and heat, this layer can move which can deform/damage the bearing. By not applying this layer contact between the bearing and housing is better, which in turn improves the performance and functioning of the bearing.
ACL has recently released a number of new products for different performance applications and engines. These include for the BMW S62B50 5.0L V8 and the Chevrolet LT V8 series. More information on the new products can be found in the illustration below.
